The Aachen-born soprano Cathrin Lange, praised by the press for her "crystal-clear voice", her "sparkling coloraturas and radiant high notes" as well as for her "acting talent
and intense acting", has developed in recent years into one of the most interesting and exciting singers in opera, as well as in concert and oratorio singing.
In the 2025/26 season, Cathrin Lange can be heard in a series of remarkable concert highlights: At the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, she performs a festive program celebrating the 200th birthday of Johann
Strauss II with the KMGV and the Hamburg Philharmonic. Haydn’s The Creation will be performed with the Oratorienchor Bielefeld, and a special highlight will be the world premiere of Roland Kunz’s
oratorio Hildegard with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken. During Advent, she will perform Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Bachchor Hagen and Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the
Vokalensemble Augsburg.
In the previous season, she collaborated with the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Bremer Philharmoniker, and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, and was heard in the Kölner Philharmonie as well as again at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. In opera, she also appeared as the First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Oper Bonn, Theater Freiburg, and Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern.
Her extensive concert repertoire includes works by Bach (St Matthew Passion, Christmas Oratorio), Händel (Messiah), Haydn (The Creation), Mozart (Requiem, Coronation Mass), Mendelssohn (Hymn of Praise), Brahms (A German Requiem), Bruckner (Te Deum), Martin (Et in terra pax), Mahler (Symphony No. 4), Bernstein (Kaddish), Fauré (Requiem), Orff (Carmina Burana), and Rutter (Mass of the Children).
Cathrin Lange is also a sought-after recitalist, particularly in the German and French repertoire. A portrait recital of the composer Cécile Chaminade, as well as numerous thematic programs, testify to her conceptual and stylistic versatility.
In 2023/24, she appeared as Violetta (La Traviata) at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and as Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at Theater Bonn. Earlier engagements took her to the Komische Oper Berlin, the State Operas of Stuttgart and Saarbrücken, the Opera Graz, Theater Basel, Aalto-Theater Essen, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, and numerous other stages across the German-speaking world.
During her engagements at Theater Augsburg (2009–2018) and the Staatstheater Darmstadt (2018–2023), she built up an extensive repertoire including roles such as Violetta, Liù, Gilda, Olympia, Musetta, Mélisande, Adina, Susanna, Pamina, Despina, Ännchen, Zerlina, Adele, and Eliza Doolittle.
She has worked with conductors including Stefan Soltesz, Jonathan Stockhammer, Giuseppe Finzi, Hansjörg Albrecht, Daniel Cohen, Domonkos Héja, and Michael Hofstetter, as well as directors such as Peter Konwitschny, Jan Philipp Gloger, Immo Karaman, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Thorleifur Örn Arnasson.
Since 2019, she has collaborated closely with the Bastian Walcher Quartet. Following the successful Christmas CD Arien, Jazz und Zimtsterne, the crossover album Arias in Blue was released in 2024.
Cathrin Lange is the recipient of the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize (2014) and the Theater Prize Augsburg (2012). She was nominated for the Austrian Music Theatre Prize in 2017 for her portrayal of Blonde.
