Roxana Constantinescu, who was born in Bucharest and began her career as a soloist with the Vienna Staatsoper ensemble, has emerged as one of today’s leading vocal artists, showcasing an extensive repertoire in both concert and opera.
In the 2025/26 season, Roxana Constantinescu will take on the role of Adalgisa in Bellini's Norma at the Zagreb National Theater under the baton of Pier Giorgio Morandi. She will also guest star in Bach's Christmas Oratorio in Trier, Bern, and Stuttgart and perform Edward Elgar's The Music Makers with the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra in Timișoara. At the Sonoro Festival in Cluj, Romania, she will also demonstrate her artistic versatility and expressiveness in two recitals.
Her recent notable engagements in the previous season include concerts and recordings of Bellini's Norma under the baton of Pier Giorgio Morandi and Bellini's I Puritani with the Dresden Philharmonic and Riccardo Frizza, both produced by the San Francisco Classical Recording Company. She has also performed Mozart’s Requiem with the Bilbao Radio Orchestra, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Mahler’s 3rd Symphony with the Bucharest Radio Orchestra, and recitals in Rome, Paris, and Vienna. With the Dresden Philharmonic under Marek Janowski, she performed and recorded Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen, Cavalleria Rusticana, Il Tabarro, and Dvořák’s Stabat Mater.
Roxana made her debut at the Opéra de Paris as Bradamante in Händel’s Alcina and portrayed the title role in Vivaldi’s Juditha Triumphans at the Greek National Opera, a production broadcast worldwide by Mezzo TV. She has performed as the alto soloist in Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis at the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. She has also appeared in concert with the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart and Hans-Christoph Rademann at the Walt Disney Hall, Princeton, and Fort Lauderdale. Under the baton of Helmuth Rilling, she has sung at the Konzerthaus Berlin, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Oregon Bach Festival.
Roxana has made highly acclaimed opera debuts at Zurich Opera, Teatro La Fenice, the Israeli Opera, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, the New National Theatre Tokyo, LA Opera, Theater an der Wien, Opera de Oviedo, and Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse.
Mrs. Constantinescu has collaborated with some of the foremost conductors of our time, including Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Muti, Fabio Luisi, James Conlon, Helmuth Rilling, Gustavo Dudamel, Kirill Petrenko, Marek Janowski, Sir Neville Marriner, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Cristian Măcelaru, Bertrand de Billy, Franz Welser-Möst, Manfred Honeck, Marco Armiliato, Daniele Callegari, Riccardo Frizza, Gaetano d’Espinosa, Matthew Halls, and Sascha Goetzel, among others.
Her performances have graced esteemed orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, LA Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bach Collegium Stuttgart, and Bach Collegium Japan.
Roxana is also recognized as an accomplished art song recitalist, having performed at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Musikverein Vienna, Abbaye de Lessay, Théâtre Ranelagh Paris, and Palais Eschenbach Vienna. She has recorded for BIS Records, Pentatone, Hänssler Classic, OEHMS Classics, SWR, CSO Resound, Artmode Records, Weltbild, and Carus Verlag. She is a Grammy nominee for her recording of Stravinsky's Pulcinella under the baton of Pierre Boulez.
