The Aachen-born soprano Cathrin Lange, praised by the press for her "crystal-clear voice", her "sparkling coloraturas and radiant high notes" as well as for her "acting talent and intense acting", has developed in recent years into one of the most interesting and exciting singers in opera, as well as in concert and oratorio singing.
Soprano Cathrin Lange will appear in numerous special concert programs during the 2026/27 season. At the Gewandhaus Leipzig, she will sing Hans Gál’s impressive cantata De profundis, Op. 50. She will perform Haydn’s The Creation with the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic. In Uelzen, she returns to the St. Marien Kantorei to participate in Karl Jenkins’ oratorio The Peacemakers. The Advent season will feature, among other works, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, which she will sing on several occasions with various ensembles, including the Bachchor Stuttgart. March will see a performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Berlin Philharmonie in collaboration with Choralspace, under the direction of Joris Derder.
In recent months, she has collaborated with ensembles such as the German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrücken, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Württemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen, the Bremen Philharmonic, and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, performing at venues including the Cologne Philharmonie and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg.
In the realm of opera, she has made guest appearances as the First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Opera Bonn, Theater Freiburg, and the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern.
Her extensive concert repertoire includes works by Bach (St. Matthew Passion), (Christmas Oratorio), Handel (Messiah), Haydn (The Creation), Mozart (Requiem, Coronation Mass), Mendelssohn (Hymn of Praise), Brahms (A German Requiem), Bruckner (Te Deum), Martin (Et in terra pax), Mahler (Symphony No. 4), Bernstein (Kaddish), Fauré (Requiem), Orff (Carmina Burana), and Rutter (Mass of the Children).
Cathrin Lange is also a sought-after interpreter of art song (Lied), particularly within the German and French repertoires. A recital dedicated to the composer Cécile Chaminade, along with numerous thematic programs, demonstrates her conceptual and stylistic versatility.
In the 2023/24 season, she appeared as Violetta (La Traviata) at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and as Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at Theater Bonn, among other roles. Previous guest engagements have taken her to the Komische Oper Berlin, the State Operas of Stuttgart and Saarbrücken, Oper Graz, Theater Basel, the Aalto-Theater Essen, and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, as well as numerous other stages across the German-speaking world.
During her engagements at Theater Augsburg (2009–2018) and Staatstheater Darmstadt (2018–2023), she built an extensive repertoire that includes roles such as Violetta, Liù, Gilda, Olympia, Musetta, Mélisande, Adina, Susanna, Pamina, Despina, Ännchen, Zerlina, Adele, and Eliza Doolittle.
She has worked with conductors such as Stefan Soltesz, Jonathan Stockhammer, Giuseppe Finzi, Hansjörg Albrecht, Daniel Cohen, Domonkos Héja, and Michael Hofstetter, as well as directors including Peter Konwitschny, Jan Philipp Gloger, Immo Karaman, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Thorleifur Örn Arnasson.
Since 2019, she has collaborated closely with the Bastian Walcher Quartet and the Regensburger Domspatzen, regularly performing crossover concerts.
Cathrin Lange is a recipient of the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize (2014) and the Augsburg Theatre Prize (2012). She was nominated for the Austrian Music Theatre Prize in 2017 for her portrayal of Blonde.
